Scheduled for this Tuesday (17), the public hearing on the impacts of the increase in import tax on solar panels – which jumped from 9,6% to 25% in November 2024 – was postponed in the CI (Infrastructure Committee) of the Federal Senate. The short week in Brasília (DF) due to the Corpus Christi holiday, on Thursday (19), with the meeting of the National Congress and the difficulty in mobilizing agents in the sector would have weighed on the postponement. The meeting does not yet have a new date.
A public hearing on import tax had been proposed by Senator Sergio Moro (União-PR), in a request approved on the 10th. The parliamentarian is the rapporteur of the bill that provides for the rate to be maintained at 9,6%. Recently, the tax was increased to 25%, which generated intense criticism, including from the president of the CI, senator Marcos Rogério (PL-RO). “The 25% rate is abusive and has no beneficial effect on the national industry, which currently no longer meets the growing demand of the sector”, criticized the liberal.
The public hearing that seeks to address the import tax promises to bring together representatives of the Federal Government, the productive sector and civil society organizations. Among the guests, representatives of CAMEX (Chamber of Foreign Trade); ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy); ABINEE (Brazilian Association of Electrical and Electronic Industry); INEL (National Institute of Clean Energy); companies such as Lightsource; and MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services).
