Raízen announced this Thursday (25) the sale of 55 GD (distributed generation) plants, in a strategic move that aims to optimize the asset portfolio and strengthen the company's capital structure.
The deal is expected to generate approximately R$600 million in revenue, with payments made as the transfers are completed — which is expected by March 2026. Of the plants sold, 44 were acquired by Thopen Energia and another 11 by Grupo Gera, totaling an installed capacity of up to 142 MWp.
The sale marks the end of the joint venture with Grupo Gera, created to develop DG projects and technological solutions for electricity management and consumption.
According to Raízen, the transaction is in line with its strategy of prioritizing its core businesses — such as sugar and ethanol production and fuel distribution — in addition to reducing the company's debt, which exceeded R$30 billion at the end of the 2024/25 harvest.
Heated market
The transaction takes place amid a consolidated distributed generation landscape in Brazil. Although the market remains highly fragmented, the number of transactions involving solar plants has grown rapidly.
A survey by consultancy Greener indicates a jump from 90 to 125 assets traded in the first half of 2025, an increase of almost 40% compared to the same period last year.
The plant transaction also reflects a broader movement in the sector: with the increase in installed capacity — which already exceeds 40 GW in DG systems — the market for greenfield projects is beginning to show signs of saturation, while platforms supported by large funds, such as Brasol (with BlackRock and Siemens) and Élis Energia (from Pátria Investimentos), continue to consolidate assets already in operation.
