In a global scenario increasingly focused on sustainability, encouraging research and technical training has become essential to preparing new generations. Brazilian universities have played a strategic role in this process, uniting innovation, science, and environmental awareness.

One of the projects that most symbolizes this effort is the Brazil Solar Challenge 2025, which will take place from October 22nd to 26th at Imboassica Lagoon in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro. The event will bring together 15 boats from different regions of the country and is promoted by UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), with support from the Macaé City Hall.

The initiative is a scientific and technological competition that promotes the development of vessels powered exclusively by solar energy by teams made up of students, teachers and technicians from teaching and research institutions across the country.

According to the organizers, the aim is to stimulate the use of renewable energy, strengthen technical and scientific training, and encourage the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy model.

Created in 2009, the Solar Challenge is inspired by international solar boat competitions, such as the Dutch Solar Challenge, but adapted to the Brazilian reality and the country's water resources, and promotes integration between universities, research centers, companies and society.
