A windstorm knocked down seven power towers in the rural area of Prata (MG) on Monday night (24) and left the entire municipality without electricity. The city has just under 30 inhabitants, according to the latest IBGE Census.
According to cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais), strong gusts of wind hit the distribution line that supplies one of the main energy sources in the region, causing the structures to collapse.
Rural areas were the most affected, and even with the emergency installation of generators, residents reported fluctuations in the power supply.
City teams were mobilized to support the operation, sending machinery to open access roads and assisting with recovery efforts. Since the municipality does not have a meteorological measuring device, it was not possible to determine the wind speed responsible for the damage.
Cemig also reinforced safety guidelines, warning of the risk of accidents involving broken cables. The distributor further advised that, whenever incidents occur on the electrical grid, residents should call 116, keep their distance from the site, and prevent other people from approaching until the arrival of technical teams.
