O North was the Brazilian region who registered the highest percentage growth of installed power in own generation de solar energy in 2022, according to an investigation carried out by Canal Solar, based on data from the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
Formed by the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins, the location expanded more than 89% of its capacity in micro and photovoltaic mining over the past year, jumping from 0,55 GW on January 1st to 1,04 GW on December 31rd.
A region that came closest of this percentage increase was the Northeast, with 87,22% growth, followed by the Southeast; South and Midwest, as shown in the image below:

According to Helane Souza, head from Future Solar, a supplier of photovoltaic equipment based in Manaus (AM), two factors help to explain this growth.
AIn addition to the deadline for connection requests from consumers who sought to remain outside the rules of Law 14.300, she highlighted the work to expand transmission lines carried out in the region by the ONS (National Electric System Operator).
“We had, for example, the implementation of a transmission line in Amazonas, which was very important. It was a union of 138 kW, which brought the possibility of connecting several generating plants and mini solar plants”, he commented.
Lots to improve
Despite the significant growth, the North region is still the Brazilian location that presents the least positive numbers for solar DG, considering that all other regions already have at least 2,5 GW of installed power in the segment.
Furthermore, currently, 35 of the 49 Brazilian municipalities that do not yet have any solar energy system installed in the distributed micro and mini generation segment are located precisely in states in the North region, especially in remote and difficult to access locations. In Amazonas alone, for example, there are 24 cities without access to the source.
