Registration is now open for the “Solar Decathlon Brazil – Latin America and Caribbean,” a competition that will be held for the first time in the country and will challenge university students to develop building designs capable of minimizing energy consumption and using renewable sources to meet their needs.

The competition will feature ten themed events and will be organized in three phases. The first involves planning, structuring the official platform, and monitoring international editions of the Solar Decathlon.

The second stage includes team registration, seminars, and project evaluations, including an online phase, a semi-final, and an in-person final. The schedule also includes activities following the competition's conclusion.

The competition was launched last Thursday (29) by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and seeks to stimulate the development of solutions for near-zero energy buildings, combining efficient technologies and renewable generation.

The evaluation of the projects will consider energy performance criteria, based on instruments such as the Brazilian Building Labeling Program and the Procel Buildings Seal, in addition to the minimum energy efficiency indices stipulated in national legislation.

Labeling will be used as a tool to verify the performance of buildings, taking into account the characteristics of each type of building.
