The vice president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) took on, this Wednesday (4), the position of Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services of the new Lula (PT) government.
In his speech, the head of the Ministry revealed that he will create the Secretariat for Green Economy, Decarbonization and Bioindustry, which will work together with the Ministry of the Environment, led by Marina Silva (REDE).
The vice president commented that the country will invest in the low-carbon economy and clean technologies. One of the actions he promised is approve a law that regulates the carbon market in the country.
“It is imperative to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, in establishing a policy to support a low-carbon economy, prioritizing clean technologies and initiating a process of efficient, safe and sustainable productive access,” he said.
Alckmin also promised dialogue with businesspeople and announced the creation of the National Industrial Development Council, with the aim of increasing the generation of formal jobs, enhancing the development of new technologies and the resumption of the country's industrialization, without neglecting decarbonization.
Finally, the minister highlighted that the “reindustrialization” policy will have the support of BNDES (National Economic Development Bank) and believes that the Brazil can be a protagonist in the process of decarbonization of the global economy.
“Green economy is doubly important. First, because Brazil could suffer sanctions on its exports due to deforestation. So, on the one hand, the environmental agenda against climate change is important, to prevent Brazil from suffering retaliation. On the other, a great opportunity for Brazil to attract investments”, commented the minister.
