The board of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) held a demonstration last Tuesday (11) against the power cuts 20% on agency budgets regulations, as well as the lack of servers to carry out daily activities with quality and efficiency.

The collegiate, for the first time in 20 years, removed from the agenda all 30 processes scheduled to be deliberated in support of the “Valuation of Regulation” movement.

“Maintaining and valuing our high-level teams is essential for the rigor, impartiality, transparency and timeliness of necessary decisions in the most diverse sectors that support the social and economic development of our country”, declared the general director , Sandoval Feitosa.

According to ANEEL, there was a cut in the 2024 budget equivalent to R$31,7 million, previously R$187,4 million.

“The restriction resulted in an average 25% cut in the activities of the sectoral ombudsman, inspection of electricity services and public participation. There was also a 14,3% reduction in administrative expenses,” said the ANEEL in note.

Last week (11/4), the 6 federal regulatory agencies released a joint note criticizing the 20% budget cut. Together, these local authorities collect R$130 billion per year, while the budget foreseen for 2024 was around R$5 billion, an amount considered insufficient given the needs.

In 2023, only ANEEL raised R$ 1,1 billion through the TFSEE (Electricity Service Inspection Fee).

The board of ANEEL also demands the restructuring of careers, as salaries of agency employees are incompatible with other State careers.

“I am sure that the activities of regulators are typical State activities and impact the sector, causing the vector of economic development to be responded to or not by the regulatory agency. This is a recognition that agency employees deserve to have, to at least be equivalent to the management cycle in terms of remuneration”, said director Fernando Mosna.

Sandoval said that the Agency has not held new public tenders since 2010. Today the ANEEL count with deficit of 32% of the workforce.

According to a statement from the agencies, currently, 65% of regulatory agency positions are vacant, “which results from retirements, dismissals and deaths of civil servants, and the number of vacancies authorized for the competition is not enough to replace even half of these vacant positions”.
