Bahia will increase its installed solar energy capacity in 2021. This is because the British renewable energy company Atlas Renewable Energy and the American multinational Dow announced the signing of a PPA (large-scale solar energy contract) in the city of Juazeiro.
The PPA foresees the installation of a photovoltaic plant in Jacarandá, which will generate more than 440 GWh per year. The plant will have more than 450 thousand bifacial modules and an installed capacity of 187 MWp. According to Atlas, the PPA contract will be for 15 years, with supply starting in the first half of next year.
The company reinforced its presence in the Brazilian market, where it has already established three plants in operation in the state of Bahia – São Pedro (67 MW), Sertão Solar Barreiras (117 MW) and Juazeiro (167MW) – and another in Ceará, Sol do Futuro (81 MW).
Largest bilateral solar PPA in Brazil
In March this year, Atlas Renewable Energy and the British mining company Anglo American signed the largest solar energy sales contract in Brazil, the installation of the Atlas Casablanca photovoltaic plant, with an investment of R$881 million.
The plant, which the company will develop in the state of Minas Gerais, will supply Anglo American with around 9 TWh during the term of the contract, which will last 15 years and begin in 2022. The plant will have an installed capacity of 330 MW and more than 800 thousand modules bifacials.
