The CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber) concluded this Friday (22) the 39th New Energy Auction. In 1h22 of bidding, 384,5 MW were contracted on average at an average selling price of R$ 392,84/MWh – a value 3,16% below the marginal reference price, set at R$ 411,00/MWh. This represents a savings of R$ 864,78 million.
The bidding process enabled approximately R$5,46 billion in investments for the construction of new hydroelectric plants. In total, contracts were negotiated for 65 projects, including small hydroelectric plants (SHPs) and large hydroelectric plants (CGHs), totaling 815,5 MW of installed capacity and 464,2 MW of average physical capacity.
The energy was acquired by nine distributors: Amazonas Energia (148,578 MWm), Celpe (25,090 MWm), Coelba (87,030 MWm), Coelce (34,342 MWm), Cosern (11,761 MWm), Eletropaulo (30,657 MWm), Energisa Paraíba (7,841 MWm), Energisa Tocantins (7,841 MWm) and Light (31,362 MWm)
The aim of the contest was to contract energy from new hydroelectric projects and expansions of up to 50 MW of power, in compliance with Law No. 14.182/2021, which deals with the privatization of Eletrobras.
According to EPE (Energy Research Company), 241 projects were registered, including CGHs (Hydroelectric Generating Plants), PCHs (Small Hydroelectric Plants) and UHEs (Hydroelectric Power Plants), totaling around 3 GW of power offered, signaling strong interest from the sector in participating in the competition.
The winners will sign CCEARs (Regulated Environment Energy Commercialization Contracts), in the “quantity” modality, with a 20-year supply period starting on January 1, 2030.
Among the registered projects, PCHs predominated, totaling 2.592 MW (86,43%). HPPs accounted for 269 MW (8,97%) and CGHs for 138 MW (4,6%).
The price ceiling, defined by the Marginal Reference Cost, was set at R$411,00/MWh for projects with or without a permit. Specifically, for projects with a permit, the reference value will be R$221,55/MWh for hydroelectric plants and R$316,50/MWh for small hydroelectric plants and large hydroelectric plants.
