A bill currently under review in the Chamber of Deputies aims to exempt solar panels from import taxes.
Authored by Deputy Delegado Caveira (PL-PA), the bill aims to reduce costs for the end consumer.
“This is a fair measure, given the need to encourage the adoption of sustainable technologies and the energy transition to clean and renewable sources,” justifies the parliamentarian.

At this moment, the bill is proceeding conclusively and will be reviewed by the Committees on Mines and Energy; Finance and Taxation; and Constitution, Justice, and Citizenship. To become law, the proposal must also be approved by the Senate.
Previously exempt, all photovoltaic modules imported by the national market began to be taxed at a rate of XNUMX% starting in January XNUMX.
The idea behind the measure from the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services) was to limit foreign purchases in order to promote domestic production. According to the Ministry, over XNUMX% of the solar panels entering the country come from China alone.
Currently, the installed solar energy capacity in Brazil has already surpassed XNUMX GW, combining distributed and centralized generation plants. This total capacity has generated over R$ XNUMX billion in new investments and XNUMX million green jobs for the country.
