O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) defended, during a meeting of the World Economic Foruml, this Monday (29), that countries must concentrate efforts to regulate Article 6 of the Paris Agreement by COP 30, which will be held in Brazil, in the city of Belém (PA).

Representing minister Alexandre Silveira on the agendas in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, the Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels of the MME, Pietro Mendes, asked for commitment from the planet to regulate internationally the carbon credit market, in order to guarantee a financing instrument for developed countries for the energy transition of developing nations.

During the meeting, Mendes stated that energy security is as important as the energy transition and that Latin America needs resources to finance a new green economy, based on low-carbon energy, including solar energy.

“We know that, for example, many countries in the Middle East look to Brazil to buy carbon credits, but as we do not have international regulations, it is not possible to sell internationally. It is very important to promote the financing of any transition, this should be the focus until COP 30,” said the Brazilian secretary.

The discussions also involved the global expansion of the use of solar energy and the energy demands of new artificial intelligence technologies.
