Cogerh (Water Resources Management Company) of the State of Ceará, through Gefen (Energy Efficiency Management), created in July of this year, is moving towards the generation of renewable energy in its structures.
Carlos Alberto Teixeira, energy efficiency manager, explains that the sector is studying ways to take advantage of the potential for photovoltaic generation in the state's reservoirs. One of the options being analyzed is the generation of energy in floating plants.
The maneuvering sets present at Pumping Stations 00 and 01, in Pacatuba, are already prepared to receive investment in self-production both for consumption by the company itself and for commercialization in other situations, such as in the Free Energy Market.
The initial objective is to reduce electricity costs, which is the company's second largest cost, and then expand its uses, such as for the needs of the H2V (green hydrogen) production hub.
“In the search for a sustainable model of water resource transfer that meets all the interests of the population of Ceará, it is important that Cogerh follows this path of innovation in the use of solar energy to guarantee the sustainability of its operation,” stated Teixeira.
Station renovation
Among other actions by Gefen, a renovation was carried out to update the panel rooms of the maneuvering set of pumping stations 00 and 01, next to the Gavião Reservoir, one of the main reservoirs for supplying the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza.
The electrical substation was also renovated, with another transformer to guarantee operations that serve around 4 million inhabitants, in addition to meeting the water demands of the Port of Pecém.
In addition, Management is working to acquire and install frequency inverters and a more advanced monitoring control system at EE-0 and EE-1. This will reduce energy consumption by reducing the need to activate hydraulic pumps.
