The CME (Mines and Energy Committee) of the Chamber of Deputies approved, in a meeting held this Wednesday (9), a series of requests to kick off the legislative year. One of the main points is a public hearing to discuss the risk of overloading the electrical grid. The date of the public hearing is yet to be confirmed.
The author of the request, deputy Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ), highlighted the fear following the publication of a safety report by the ONS (National Electric System Operator) on the danger of overload in nine states over the next five years.
“It is unacceptable to have this type of finding, that the growth in energy generation through solar panels brings serious risks of blackouts, due to overloading in transmission substations. If this happens, it increases our concern even more. It is essential that agencies and entities clarify this situation and demonstrate the measures that are being taken to mitigate or eliminate the risks,” said Leal.
According to the approved request, the general director of the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency, Sandoval Feitosa; the Secretary of Energy of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Gentil Nogueira; the general director of NOS, Márcio Rea; and a representative of EPE (Energy Research Company).
Hearings
The CME approved other public hearings that should take place in the first half of the year. Two of them, which should take place on the 22nd, will evaluate ENEL's performance in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and the company's intention to extend the concessions. The same will take place on another date to discuss the service provided by Amazonas Energia S/A.
Another meeting should address the presence of the risk of an imminent power outage in Amazonas. The following should be invited to this hearing: the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira; the Director General of the ANEEL, Sandoval Feitosa; and the president of Eletrobras, Ivan Monteiro.
