According to a survey carried out by the Canal Solar, based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Minas Gerais leads the state ranking of photovoltaic DG (distributed generation) with around 1,1 GW of power – which represents almost 20% of the installed capacity in the country.

And the expectation is that this number will increase, as several companies are investing in the state of Minas Gerais. Among them is AXS Energia – belonging to the Araxá Solar group – which operates in the DG (distributed generation) market, offering subscription plans.

The company chose Minas Gerais to begin its operations and intends to invest R$750 million to implement several photovoltaic plants. Alysson Barros, Operations Director at AXS Energia, highlights that the state was chosen to begin operations due to several favorable factors, such as climate conditions and high solar generation potential, as well as adequate legislation and a receptive market.

According to the company, the first plant is already under construction in São Gonçalo do Sapucaí, located in the southern region of the state. In addition, two are expected to be installed in August, one in Passos, in the Southwest, and another in Prata, in the Triângulo Mineiro region. The expectation is that two more will be operating by the end of the year in Minas Gerais, and by 2023 the goal is to have 30 photovoltaic systems throughout Brazil.

It is also estimated that, in the last quarter of 2021, practically all municipalities in Minas Gerais will have the company's services available. Initially, the service will be dedicated to commercial low-voltage customers. However, they stated that, later this year, they will also offer services to residential consumers.

Job and income generation

AXS's projection is that around R$1 billion will be invested in the state of Minas Gerais in three years. As a result, it is expected that approximately 150 jobs will be created this year and more than a thousand in 2022.

“It is a win-win partnership for everyone, in which cities receive investment and benefit from generating local employment and income, in addition to ensuring sustainability. And we will be able to use qualified labor to develop the business. Traders and, in the future, all citizens, will benefit from this clean and cheaper energy, generating value for their region”, added Barros.

“The photovoltaic plants are the group’s first step in Minas Gerais. We are aware of different investment possibilities and will soon present new alternatives to the Minas Gerais market in the areas of storage, mobility and, mainly, partnerships for electric vehicles,” he concluded.
