Solar energy is already a reality in Brazil, especially in the residential sector, which leads the consumer class with 75% of the systems installed in the country. In total, there are around 410 thousand plants generating electricity in a clean and renewable way. Among these plants are those located in a condominium of the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, located in Santa Maria (DF).

Since May 2020, by decision of the residents and the building manager, the common areas of Total Ville 402 have been supplied by photovoltaic energy. According to Michel Blumenfeld, franchisee of Blue Sol, the company responsible for installing the project, 82 panels were installed, which together form a 28,7 kWp system. On average, 3.850 kWh/month are generated. The result is a monthly savings of more than R$3 – which totals more than R$35 saved each year.
Furthermore, the businessman emphasized that the condominium will stop emitting around 20 thousand kg of CO₂ per year, a result that would be obtained with the equivalent of more than 500 cultivated trees. According to Blumenfeld, the opportunity to install the system arose in the first days of operation of the unit, opened in 2019. “A resident attended the opening lecture of our franchise and was interested in having a plant operating there”.
He also says that the investment in Total Ville 402 was made with a down payment, which was already available in its reserve fund, and the remaining amount was divided into 36 installments, with financing by Banco Santander. “The installments were lower than the amount saved monthly on the electricity bill. A big advantage”, he highlighted.
Sustainable future
The Blue Sol franchisee also mentioned that there is a future project with the property manager to install a photovoltaic system that generates energy for the condominium units, reducing all or part of the apartments’ electricity consumption. “The property manager and the residents are very excited about the chance to increase their own energy generation. They are already seeing the advantages of having a plant in operation and considerably reducing the price of their monthly electricity bills,” he said.

“In fact, they are already thinking about the improvements that will be implemented with the amounts saved, such as installing air conditioning in common areas and a heater in the pool. In other words, the amount saved on the energy bill will be reinvested”, he explained.
Michel Blumenfeld highlighted that he is optimistic about the possibility of bringing solar to other popular condominiums. Total Ville 402, in this case, is part of a residential complex with 10 other identical units. “We are already negotiating with two others to benefit many people with the photovoltaic source”, he concluded.
