The ONS (National Electric System Operator) released this Tuesday (29) a specific operational plan for the 2026 Elections, with additional security measures to guarantee the energy supply during the voting days.

According to the Operator, the strategy will focus on October 4th, the date of the first round, and October 25th, when the second round will be held in the localities where the electoral process continues.

This initiative complies with Resolution No. 001/2005 of the CMSE (Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee), which establishes the adoption of additional security measures by the ONS (National System Operator) to ensure the supply of electricity during events considered to be of great national importance.

Among the planned actions are the blocking of maintenance work that involves cutting or risking cutting load, the reduction of system operation flows, and restrictions on interventions with the potential to impact supply.

Restrictions on maintenance

For the first shift, ONS reported that the blocking of interventions will begin at midnight on Saturday (3) and will remain in place for the period defined for the special operation.

In the event of a second round, the measures will be adopted between October 24 and 26, again covering the period related to the voting.

The Operator also requested that generation, transmission, and distribution agents keep operation and maintenance teams on standby and avoid scheduled interventions in facilities that could increase the risk of interruptions.

Furthermore, additional safety procedures must be adopted during the periods defined for the special operation.

Climate monitoring will be intensified.

Another aspect of the planning will be monitoring weather conditions. According to the ONS (National System Operator), monitoring will be intensified in strategic areas of the SIN (National Interconnected System) to anticipate possible impacts caused by storms, strong winds, and lightning strikes.

Following the elections, the Operator must publish a report detailing the results of the SIN's operation. The document will compile technical information on network performance and the key events recorded during the voting days of the first and second rounds.

ANEEL also ordered a special operation

The measures taken by the ONS are in addition to the actions adopted by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) to reinforce the continuity of energy supply during the 2026 Elections.

As shown reporter do Canal Solar Published this Tuesday (29), it determined that distribution concessionaires and permit holders prepare a special service plan to reduce the risk of interruptions during voting and other stages of the electoral process.
