Electromobility emerges as a real option to respond to climate and environmental challenges

A climate change It is a threat to the well-being of humanity and the health of the planet. This is what the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) concluded in its summary report released on the last day 20.

We must ask ourselves what we are doing to act with the necessary urgency. What priority are countries giving to climate policies? To what extent are companies innovating to put an end to business as usual? How are we, citizens? rethinking our ways of life to continue to inhabit the Earth?

A electromobility emerges as a real option to respond to climate and environmental challenges, through the revolution towards a modern transport, efficient and, above all, cleaner.

According to the sixth IPCC report, an immediate reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all sectors is necessary to limit global warming to 1,5°C above pre-industrial levels, which implies a reduction of between 40% and 70% in transport emissions by 2050, compared to 2020.

This is a huge challenge considering that demand in this sector is increasing. It is estimated that passenger transport will multiply by 2,3 times in 2050, and cargo transport by 2,6 times, according to the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development).

A electromobility reduces GHGs, pollution and waste and improves vehicle performance and maintenance costs. Electric vehicles consume a fifth of the energy of internal combustion vehicles and emit less noise, gases and particulate matter, which improves air quality and prevents illnesses.

As electric batteries have a second useful life as energy storage solution, completing the circular economy. Electric motors have fewer moving parts, which significantly reduces costs and saves fuel.

Electromobility offers a solution for sustainable and efficient transport to respond to the increased demand for transport, without compromising the quality of the air and the planet we share.

BYD, a world leader in sustainable technologies, became the first automaker to stop producing and selling combustion vehicles in March 2022. Our goal is to reduce the Earth's temperature by 1°C, and we have already produced more than 3 million electrified vehicles.

However, we need countries to accelerate the transition to electric transport and encourage public-private partnerships to make the system viable.

In Brazil, we have made significant progress in implementing electromobility. BYD arrived in the country in 2015, when it opened its first 100% electric bus assembly plant in Campinas (SP). In 2017, it opened a second factory, also in Campinas, to produce photovoltaic modules.

To supply the fleet of electric buses, in 2020 the company began operating its third factory in Brazil, at the Manaus Industrial Complex (PIM), dedicated to the production of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries.
