The 2,73% increase in residential electricity tariffs and the 13,26% increase in lottery prices were the main factors responsible for the acceleration of consumer inflation in July, the report said. FGV (Getulio Vargas Foundation) this Thursday (7).
According to the institution, increases in residential rent (0,74%) and condominium fees (1,04%) also contributed to the increase. These factors directly impacted the Consumer Price Index (IPC-DI), which rose from a 0,16% increase in June to a 0,37% increase in July.
“Consumer prices were impacted mainly by adjustments in lottery games and electricity tariffs,” reinforced Matheus Dias, economist at FGV, in an official statement.
Among the eight groups that make up the IPC-DI, four recorded an acceleration in July:
- Health and Personal Care: from -0,02% to 0,69%);
- Miscellaneous Expenses: from 0,05% to 1,10%);
- Housing (from 0,57% to 0,88%);
- Food (from -0,19% to -0,04%).
Meanwhile, the Education, Reading, and Recreation; Clothing; Transportation; and Communications groups showed a slowdown or decline. "Even with concentrated pressures, the index shows signs of moderate inflationary spread," assessed André Braz, coordinator of FGV's price indices.
