Data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) pointed out that the Brazil completed the first semester 2023 with a increase of 5,1 GW in installed electricity generation capacity.

This growth makes up the 193,9 GW available for commercial operation in the country, counted until Monday (03). To the renewable sources account for 83,64% of this total.

According to the Agency, the 5,1 GW achieved in six months also constitute 49,97% of the growth target established by ANEEL for 2023, of 10,3 GW.

Of the 160 plants that entered commercial operation from January to June, 67 are wind-based, totaling 2,3 GW (44,53% of the total 5,1 GW); 59 are solar photovoltaics, with 2,2 GW (42,76%); 23 are thermoelectric plants, with 521,4 MW (10,13%); eight are small hydroelectric plants (PCHs), with 121,5 MW (2,36%); and three are hydroelectric generating plants, with 11,4 MW (0,22%).

In June alone, 538,1 MW were added to the Brazilian electricity matrix, of which 239,4 MW were installed in Rio Grande do Norte alone. In relation to the first half of 2023, 18 states in the five regions of the country gained new plants.

The highlights, in descending order, are Bahia, with 1.589,5 MW; Minas Gerais, with 1.276,2 MW; Rio Grande do Norte, with 978,4 MW; and Piauí, with 375,4 MW.
