The Legislative Assembly of the State of Pará (Alepa) approved, under urgency, this Tuesday (30), a bill that authorizes the State Government to contract a financing of R$ 76 million with Caixa Econômica Federal for the implementation of solar energy systems in schools of the state public network.

The initiative will be implemented by Sedec (State Secretariat of Education) and aims to reduce electricity costs, increase environmental sustainability, and free up resources for investments in education.

The first phase of the program will be implemented in Belém (PA) and foresees the installation of 89 solar power plants, with a total capacity of 9,26 MWp. The energy generated will be shared, through a credit compensation system, with another 163 schools in the state network.

According to the Government of Pará, the credit operation will have a subsidized interest rate, a grace period of up to 48 months, and amortization over up to 20 years. The model also requires a minimum counterpart of only 5% of the total investment value.

"These conditions allow the State to structure the operation with financing for 95% of the project value, preserving its current investment capacity and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the contract," explains the Executive.

In addition to reducing energy costs, the government hopes to direct the saved resources towards improvements in the quality of education and the technological modernization of school facilities. The expectation is that the project will also contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and generating jobs in the areas of installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems.
