Electricity futures prices rose again on the BBCE (Brazilian Energy Trading Platform) after consecutive weeks of decline.

Last week, the main contracts traded on the platform registered increases in value, reaching up to 15,34%, driven by high temperatures and increased demand for electricity.

The biggest increase was recorded in conventional energy contracts with delivery in the Southeast/Central-West submarket in January 2027. The price rose from R$ 181,63/MWh to R$ 209,50/MWh, an increase of 15,34% compared to the previous week.

Subsequently, contracts for October 2026 rose 11,33%, from R$ 87,02/MWh to R$ 96,88/MWh. Increases were also recorded in products for the first quarter of 2027 (+6,49%), second quarter of 2027 (+6,16%) and November 2026 (+6%).

According to Eduardo Rossetti, Executive Director of Products and Institutional Relations at BBCE, the recovery in prices is related to high temperatures, which increased the demand for electricity and put pressure on prices in the short-term market.

The executive explains that the heat contributes to the growth of the net load, raising hourly energy prices, especially during periods of higher consumption. "On October 15th and 16th, the Settlement Price of Differences (PLD) exceeded R$ 1/MWh at 19 PM, reaching R$ 1.437,37/MWh and R$ 1.304,10/MWh, respectively," Rossetti stated.

The behavior of the PLD (Price of Energy in the Spot Market) reinforces the influence of supply and demand conditions on price formation in the energy market. Short-term price increases can also influence market participants' expectations and contract negotiations for the coming months.

Contracts for 2027 lead in financial volume.

Despite the more significant price increase in contracts for January 2027, the product with delivery in November 2026 had the highest number of transactions on the platform, with 358 contracts traded. The December expiration came in second place, with 190 contracts, followed by January 2027, with 98 transactions.

In terms of energy and financial volume, the highlight was the annual contract for 2027 (A2027), which generated 644 GWh and R$ 156,32 million, according to a survey by BBCE. The price of the product increased by 2,09%, rising from R$ 242,64/MWh to R$ 247,72/MWh.

The first quarter of 2027 also showed significant activity, with a financial volume of R$ 92,47 million, followed by contracts from November 2026, which totaled R$ 72,72 million. Long-term negotiations remained active throughout the week.

According to BBCE, annual contracts for 2027 totaled 920 GWh traded in 30 transactions, while products for 2028 moved 212 GWh in nine contracts. The 2029 and 2030 maturities recorded lower volumes, of 79 GWh and 9 GWh, respectively.
