A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) announced this Thursday (15) that more than 258 thousand consumers joined GD (distributed generation) in Brazil between January and April 2025. The advance represented an increase of 2,86 GW of installed power in the period.

The state of São Paulo led the expansion, with 46 new plants connected to the grid and 405 MW of installed capacity. Next comes Minas Gerais, which added 270 MW with the entry into operation of 24 new systems.

Despite the impressive numbers, the ANEEL did not detail how many of these installations were carried out by private integrating companies and how many were implemented by Cemig YES – subsidiary of Cemig (Minas Gerais Energy Company), which also operates in the direct supply of technology in the state.

National overview of GD

As of April 30, Brazil had 3,47 million distributed generation systems connected to the distribution grid, with a total installed capacity of close to 39,22 GW, according to updated data from ANEEL.

Most of the installations are in the hands of residential consumers, who represent around 80% of the total — the equivalent of 2,8 million solar plants.

Commercial establishments account for 10% of connections (346,9 thousand systems), while the rural class represents 8,6%, with 298,2 thousand installations in operation.
