The Carrefour Group and GreenYellow closed a mega deal to install carports solar in 350 units in France, in an as-a-service model. In total, solar roofs on parking lots will have a capacity of 350 MW, expected to produce around 450 GWh per year.
In a 20-year contract, the plan is to install solar carports in 90 Carrefour Group hypermarkets and another 260 supermarkets in France, representing the solarization of almost 180 thousand parking spaces.
Carrefour's decision is in line with a French law approved in December 2022 that requires solar panels in parking lots with more than 80 spaces.
“We are very happy to collaborate with Carrefour. This solar partnership will significantly reduce the group's energy bills through self-consumption, contributing to the company's goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, anticipating the requirements of the French 'ApER' Law for parking lots over 1500 m².” emphasizes Romain Butte, general director of GreenYellow France.
Under the agreement, GreenYellow will make the entire investment in a turnkey model. The development phase began in July this year, with the first installations scheduled for 2025. Half of the project will be completed by the end of 2026.
