More than three million people are without access to electricity in the state of Florida ( United States, after the passage of the Hurricane Milton, considered one of the most dangerous in recent times by North American authorities.

The phenomenon hit the location at around 20:30 pm (local time; 21:30 pm, Brasília time) this Wednesday (9), accompanied by maximum winds estimated at 193 km/h, according to data from the latest bulletin of NHC (National Hurricane Center).

The tornadoes caused great destruction across the state, tearing off roofs and collapsing structures, while heavy rainfall caused flooding and waves of more than three meters in the coastal region.

Part of the roof of the Tropicana Field baseball stadium, Tampa Bay Rays, in St. Petersburg, was torn off. Already in Sarasota, Fort Myers and other communities were partially submerged.

At the beginning of this Thursday (10), wind speed was reduced to 150 km/h, leaving Milton with a category 1 hurricane, according to information from Reuters.

In the morning, the phenomenon was located about 10 miles (17 km) northwest of Cape Canaveral, where a large NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) launch site operates.

Solar Storm May Hit Earth This Thursday (10)

In the last days, local authorities organized the immediate evacuation of the areas that would be affected. On the highways, there were traffic jams and many gas stations ended up running out of fuel.

Images shared on social media show that many residents prepared their homes with wood and sandbags. Police officers were on the streets helping with the process of removing people.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, came to make a I appeal to the population not to take risks as the hurricane passes through the region. “This looks like the storm of the century,” the president said at the White House on Wednesday. “It’s literally a matter of life and death,” he added.
