The ordinary meeting of the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) was the last of the summit with the presence of director Ludimila Lima da Silva, who will complete the six-month period as a substitute in the position on the 13th. However, as she will go on vacation that was already scheduled, she will no longer participate in the next trials.
Upon returning from recess, she will return to the position of superintendent of Concessions, Permits and Authorizations for Electric Energy Services, which she has held since 2023. Ludimila played a prominent role in breaking ties in 19 votes that had stalled the agency's agenda since May 2024, when former director Hélvio Guerra's term ended and the position remained vacant until January 2025.
Given the impasse between the Federal Government (which would be responsible for nominating a new member for the regulatory agency) and the Senate (which would vet the nominee), one of the five seats remained empty for seven months. The option was to call Ludimila to serve as deputy director, who is authorized to serve 180 days in the role. The same strategy was adopted in May, when former director Ricardo Tili's term ended.
On the occasion, the general director of ANEEL, Sandoval Feitosa, summoned the agency's secretary general, Daniel Danna, who will remain in the position until November. This time, the Agency has only three effectively filled vacancies and two that are part of the arm wrestling (or “gluttony”, in political jargon) between the Executive and Legislative Branches, which is intensifying in Brasília (DF).
A ANEEL began a reduced working day this Tuesday (1), announced due to the budget cuts established by Decree 12.477, of May 30 of this year. Agency saw the R$156,1 million for discretionary expenses authorized in the LOA (Annual Budget Law) reduced to R$117,5 million after the decree signed by President Lula (PT), in what is the smallest budget in the last ten years.
