The result of the selection of hub projects hydrogen low carbon emissions, aimed at decarbonizing Brazilian industry, was released this Friday (20) by MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).
In total, 70 proposals were received, from 20 states, in all regions of the country, which included hydrogen produced from electricity, connected to the without (National Interconnected System), in solar, wind, ethanol, biomass sources, among others.
According to the Ministry, the amount of hydrogen produced per project ranged from 1 to 350 tons per year. For the analysis of the proposals, an evaluation methodology was used that considered the information declared by the proponents based on eligibility and prioritization criteria, as provided for in the call for applications.
The MME technical team took into consideration technical, financial, and potential aspects of the hub project, which included the volume of hydrogen produced and the indication of what the industrial use of the hydrogen to be produced will be with a focus on decarbonization.
The location of the project, such as an industrial hub or port area, the indication of the buyer, R&D (research and development) actions, environmental aspects and the number of partners involved in the proposal were also taken into account.
The Selection Committee coordinated by the MME had the participation of representatives from the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, the MF (Ministry of Finance), MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services), ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) and EPE (Energy research company).
According to Thiago Barral, National Secretary for Energy Transition and Planning at the MME, the results indicate the great potential of low-carbon hydrogen hubs as an inducer of industrial decarbonization in Brazil.
The proposals selected at this stage will be invited to participate in the next stage of the process, where they will present the project in detail to evaluate the data and how the resources of CIF-ID (International Climate Investments Funds) can support its viability.
