Following a series of criticisms, Neoenergia Cosern announced the temporary suspension of billing for consumers with distributed generation systems (GD II and GD III) who received significantly higher electricity bills this month, while it engages in dialogue with the State Government regarding the matter.
The decision was taken after a meeting held this Monday (17) between the concessionaire's management and representatives of Procon, which registered more than 100 complaints about the sudden increase in charges.
In early November, several users who had switched to solar energy to reduce their expenses were surprised by bills that were much higher than usual – in many cases, with amounts that had doubled or even tripled.
The increase occurred because Neoenergia Cosern started charging part of the TUSD (Distribution System Usage Tariff) and ICMS (a Brazilian state tax) to connected customers after Law 14.300/2022 came into effect on January 7, 2023.
Although the charge is provided for in the legislation, the immediate impact generated a strong reaction from consumers and consumer protection agencies.
According to the distributor, the suspension will remain in place while the company engages in dialogue with the State Government to reassess the billing model. "The decision was communicated to representatives of the State and Municipal Consumer Protection Agencies (Procons) in a meeting held," informed Neoenergia Cosern.
