A photovoltaic industry is undergoing continuous advancements, leading to diverse network requirements across countries. In the region of Latin America, prominent network specifications include the 220V three-phase network widely adopted in markets such as Mexico e Brazil.

A Growatt responded to these requirements by introducing a line of low voltage models adapted for the Latin American market, covering powers which vary from 6 kW a 75 kW.

These products have gained a significant popularity between customers in LATAM region. Following these recommendations is crucial to ensuring optimal system performance, efficiency, and longevity.

Main parameters

The following key parameters are critical considerations for customers when configuring their systems.

  • Maximum input voltage: Avoid configuring the solar system based on the maximum input voltage, as it does not accurately reflect the working voltage of the inverters;
  • Maximum efficiency voltage range: To connect solar modules and achieve maximum efficiency and extended lifespan, be sure to follow the maximum efficiency voltage range;
  • DC/AC ratio: Growatt MID-XL, MAC-XL and MAX-XL2 inverters have a maximum DC/AC ratio of 1,5. However, it is advisable to keep the DC/AC ratio of the inverter within the range of 1,2 to 1,3;
  • Number of modules per string: To determine the ideal number of modules per string, use the following formulas:

The best number of modules per string:

  • Output power x 1,3 / Module power x Number of MPPTs x Number of string per MPPT

The maximum number of modules per string:

  • Output power x 1,5 / Module power x Number of MPPTs x Number of string per MPPT

Voc temperature coefficient:

  • Consider the open circuit voltage temperature coefficient (Voc) to ensure compatibility.

Verification example

Suppose a customer chooses a LONGi Hi-MO 6 LR5-72HTH 575 and MAX.

75KTL3-XL2. In this scenario:

Table 1: Main PV module parameters
Table 1: Main PV module parameters
Table 2: Main inverter parameters
Table 2: Main inverter parameters

The best number of modules per string:

The maximum number of modules per string:

Check: 10 X 43,91 = 439,1V < 650V (OK).

Check: 12 X 52,06 = 624,72V < 650V (OK).

Considering Voc's temperature coefficient:

Vmax = Voc * N * [1+(Tmin-Tstc)*Kv] = 570V < Voc of the inverter

√ Solution: 10 PV modules per string and a total of 160 modules

New generation of Growatt inverters

Growatt, a global leader in distributed energy solutions with extensive experience in renewable energy, is about to launch the second generation of its 220V three-phase photovoltaic inverters, tailor-made for the LATAM market.

This new product line offers a diverse range of powers, ranging from 6kW to 25kW, featuring several notable improvements over its predecessor.

Compared to the previous generation, second-generation photovoltaic inverters present significant improvements. The maximum input current has been increased from 12,5A to 16A, allowing compatibility with solar modules greater than 600W.

Remarkably, maximum efficiency has increased to an impressive 98,8%. Furthermore, the starting voltage was adjusted from 250V to 200V, extending the operating hours of the new generation inverters and increasing energy production throughout the day.

Responding to customer concerns, the second generation products run quieter than the previous generation.

Additionally, the inclusion of an OLED touchscreen simplifies local configuration for installers, while the wide MPPT voltage range, which runs from 200V to 800V, expands the inverter's operating window and increases overall power production.

These improvements reinforce Growatt's commitment to improving performance, efficiency and user experience in the renewable energy landscape.
