A solar panel has found a unique application in Manaus (AM): powering a fan installed in the doghouse of a 10-year-old dog. The solution was created by designer and communications analyst Leandro Brandão, 30, to help reduce the heat faced by Maggie, his faithful companion.

The system uses a photovoltaic panel connected to a fan and operates without a battery. Therefore, the equipment relies on solar power to function and does not remain on overnight.

The idea arose during a period of higher temperatures in the Amazonian capital and from the search for alternatives to improve Maggie's comfort after episodes of discomfort experienced by the dog the previous year.

Maggie moves between the inside of the house and her doghouse, located outside, but Leandro was looking for an alternative to make the space more comfortable for times when the animal needed to stay outside.

According to him, although direct sunlight occurs mainly in the morning, the heat continues to be felt in the area during the afternoon. The first alternative considered was the installation of a conventional fan.

After researching portable models and concluding that the options found wouldn't meet his needs, Leandro was inspired by USB-powered fans, like those used in laptop cooling systems. From this, the possibility arose of using a small solar panel to provide the necessary electricity.
