Invest in sustainability and energy efficiency. That was the objective of Barbosa Supermarkets, which installed a solar power plant of 335,11 kWp in its shop de Guarulhos (SP).

Second Andre Fonseca, Executive Director of Operations at Luminae Solar, the company responsible for making the project viable in conjunction with Aldo Solar, the retailer also received the construction of a plant of 338,25 kWp installed in structures in carport model, at the branch of Sao Jose dos Campos (SP).

“This model is interesting to guarantee comfort to patients, and . And yet, depending on the location, since the legislation is municipal, there are linked benefits à IPTU exemption, changing permeable areas and others depending on the city”, he said.

In total, we used 1.025 panels 550 W JA Solar e six inverters of 100 kWp Growatt in the two photovoltaic projects. Both have a planned generation of 73,1 MWh per year.

“For Aldo, it is always a pleasure to be able to facilitate large projects in partnership with JA Solar and Luminae, reinforcing our commitment to bringing customers the best brands and products on the market”, he commented. Nuno Verças, CEO of Aldo Solar – Descarbonize Soluções.

“We are ready to handle projects of all sizes, with a team of experts and exclusive assistance. Strategic Partnerships how are these fundamentals for the success of customers and the consolidation of the solar sector”, he emphasized.

Carlos André, Director of Operations and Expansion at Supermercados Barbosa, also highlighted the importance of the partnership. “We understand that for we continue innovating in services and technology we need to dilute energy costs in terms of consumption, and the speed of the ROI of this project encouraged us to build our second store with Luminae”.

The Luminae executive adds: “we always work on materials e equipment de first line. More specifically for modules and inverters, what we call the 'heart of the plant', we chose to use only Tier 1 global players.”

In this scenario, he stated that the JA proved to be a excellent option due to high quality products. In total, the Luminae Group has already delivered 120 plants over 50 MWp of installed power with predominant use of panels from the Chinese manufacturer.

Below are the advantages listed by Fonseca in relation to JA Solar modules.

  • Energy efficiency: 550W JA modules offer exceptional energy efficiency, converting a greater proportion of sunlight into usable electricity;
  • Optimization of available space: In minigeneration projects, where space is often limited, high power per panel is crucial. The 550 W JA modules allow you to optimize the available space, generating more energy per square meter;
  • Cost reduction: Fewer panels are needed to achieve the same generation capacity, resulting in less materials, installation time and associated costs. This makes minigeneration projects more accessible and attractive from an economic point of view;
  • Greater performance in adverse conditions: JA solar panels perform robustly in a variety of weather conditions. Its durability and resistance to extreme temperatures, humidity and strong winds ensure stable energy production over time, providing reliability in challenging environments.

Supply Model

Assessing market demand and the best solution for the company's customers, André Fonseca commented that they are focused on implementing self-consumption projects.

For the Supermercados Barbosa project, they used the Smart Grid Zero Intelligent Controller, which monitors 100% of the time, generation and consumption and maintains a line of communication with the inverter to reduce generation, if necessary.

“When the plant's consumption is greater than the instantaneous generation, there is no possibility of injection into the grid. And if there is a drop in consumption or greater generation, the controller limits the generation capacity of the inverters to ensure that there is no injection into the concessionaire's network, maintaining the self-consumption model”, he explained.

“It is very important that the engineering sector makes accurate calculations for sizing the plant in order to avoid clipping losses and guarantee consistent generation even in months with lower HSP”, he reported.

Advantages of self-consumption

Below are the advantages of self-consumption listed by the executive director of Operations at Luminae Solar.

  • Avoid the need to have a complete approval process for DG (distributed generation) which, depending on the region, has required very long deadlines with still uncertainty regarding release due to availability of the local network or reverse current;
  • Avoid fees and charges for the use of the concessionaire's distribution system (TUSD) and its relevant charges;
  • Legal security if changes occur in regulations that are not yet well consolidated;
  • Possibility of migrating to GD in the future if the client is interested, through expansion of the project;
  • Faster project and, therefore, the possibility of capturing financial gains more quickly;
  • Simplified approval process, as you basically need to communicate with the concessionaire that there is an internal generating source, with parallelism, but without injection into the network, quite similar to what is done when you have a diesel GMG with parallelism.
