European consumers have increased their interest in residential solar energy systems as a way to protect themselves from rising energy prices, intensified by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, according to an analysis by BloombergNEF.

No United KingdomThis movement is already beginning to be reflected in concrete actions. The British government has announced measures to facilitate the installation of solar panels, with the aim of expanding public access to the technology and accelerating its adoption.

Concern about energy costs has also been growing among consumers. A recent Ipsos survey indicates that 84% of Britons are apprehensive about the impact of the crisis on oil prices.

This scenario is already translating into greater demand for alternative energy solutions. Companies like Octopus Energy reported that searches for residential solar systems in the UK have grown by about 27% in recent weeks, compared to the usual average.

Na GermanyThe behavior follows the same trend. Companies in the sector report an increase in inquiries for clean technologies, although conversion into sales is still expected to take a few months to solidify.

German market data reinforces this trend. Enpal recorded growth of approximately 30% in inquiries for solar systems and heat pumps, while 1KOMMA5° observed an almost doubling of interest in solar energy.

Furthermore, interest in electric vehicles has also gained momentum in the country. Information from the Carwow Deutschland platform indicates that these searches now represent about 60% of the total related to automobiles, compared to 55% before the escalation of tensions.

According to analysts, this behavior highlights consumers' sensitivity to economic conditions, especially in scenarios of rising energy costs. "Shocks in fuel prices and instabilities in the electricity system tend to accelerate the adoption of decentralized solutions, such as residential solar energy," said Lara Hayim, an analyst at BloombergNEF.

According to her, this pattern has been observed before, such as after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when consumers and governments intensified efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. During that period, there was significant progress in the adoption of technologies such as solar panels, electric vehicles, and heat pumps.

War and high oil prices are driving global investment in solar energy.
