A Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica, health and dentistry group, and the EDP group signed a 15-year contract for the self-production of 30,50 MWac of installed solar energy power, which should supply around 85% of electricity demand of the institution units in the coming years.

The photovoltaic plant, located in the state of São Paulo, is a partnership with 50%/50% co-investment between EDP Brasil and EDP Renováveis, the two group companies that operate in the country. The transaction awaits approval from CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense).

“Such an initiative is extremely significant and symbolic, as it places Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica at the forefront of the health sector, when it comes to self-production of solar energy”, pointed out João Alceu Amoroso Lima, vice-president of Environmental, Social and Governance at the Group. Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica.

The company, in the last two years, became carbon neutral by offsetting 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to obtaining a B- grade from the CDP Climate Change, the best in the Brazilian health sector.

Free energy market

In addition to the self-production contract, EDP and Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica signed a partnership for the migration of the health group's units to the free energy market and for the supply of electricity to these units until the photovoltaic plant comes into operation, from 2024.

“In total, 64 units, included in the self-production structure, were part of the migration from the operator's regulated market”, reinforced Amoroso Lima. EDP is also building five distributed generation solar plants that will supply 55% of Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica units that operate at low voltage.

“EDP’s success in developing new business models and long-term projects, offering integrated solutions aimed at customers, reinforces its innovative and sustainable profile and growth strategy based on accelerating the energy transition and decarbonizing the economy ”, highlighted Carlos Andrade, Vice President of Customers at EDP in Brazil
