The president of the Spanish company Solatio, Pedro Vaquer, in a meeting with the current governor of Minas Gerais Romeu Zema announced plans to expand the company's portfolio of photovoltaic plants in the state. Solatio will invest R$21 billion in the construction of new photovoltaic plants.

Of this amount, R$2,5 billion has already been secured, which will be sufficient for the construction of 728 MW. The remainder of the investment will be applied over the next 4 years to the construction of new plants, which should total 6.340 MW.

The company predicts that 70% of the projects that received funding should be completed by the end of 2022, and the rest by the end of 2023. Eight cities will have construction work started by the end of this year, namely Bocaiúva, Pirapora, Paracatu , Corinto, Jaíba, Janaúba, Mirabela and Manga.

The largest plants to be built are: Buritizeiro (650 MW), Arinos (1.300 MW), Janaúba (1.500 MW) and Várzea da Palma (2.050 MW). The energy from the plants will be sold through the free market, thus not requiring government auctions.

Today Brazil has 2,1 GW of installed power in centralized photovoltaic plants. With this investment, the country will more than triple this number, reaching 9 GW.
