Energy generated by wind and solar sources accounted for 23,7% of Brazil's total electricity production in 2024, almost a quarter of our energy coming directly from nature, clean, renewable, and increasingly present in the lives of Brazilians. The data comes from the 2025 National Energy Balance (BEN), published by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Research Company (EPE).
According to the report, wind generation grew 12,4%, solar power increased 39,6%, and natural gas increased 23,9%. These increases caused a 1% drop in hydropower's share of Brazil's electricity mix. Overall, domestic electricity supply reached 762,9 TWh this year, a 5,5% increase compared to 2023.
The publication highlights that, in 2024, the share of renewable sources was up to 88,2%, significantly higher than the world average and the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). Also according to the publication, since 2004, the participation of sources renewable remains above 70%, which consolidates Brazil as a global reference in sustainable electricity generation.
