ANEEL foresees R$ 7,4 billion in investments with approval of the transmission auction notice

The notice will be submitted for review by the TCU and if there are any changes, it will be assessed again by the Board of Directors of the ANEEL in November

A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) approved, this Thursday (6), the notice for Transmission Auction No. 1/2020, with a forecast of R$ 7,4 billion in investments and the generation of 15.434 direct jobs.

In total, 11 lots will be negotiated in the event, with the contracting of 1.958 km of new transmission lines and 6.420 MVA (megavolt-amperes) in transformation capacity. The auction is scheduled for December 17th at the B3 headquarters in São Paulo. Click here to download the list of projects to be tendered.

For André Pepitone, general director of ANEEL, this decision will contribute to the recovery of the country's economy. “I classify today's decision as the Brazilian electricity sector's contribution to Brazil's agenda to emerge from the crisis,” declared Pepitone.

Efrain Cruz, the reporting director for the topic, highlighted this contribution to the electricity sector. “The ANEEL and the Ministry of Mines and Energy are taking the first step here to contribute to the recovery of the Brazilian economy, through investments in infrastructure, with the generation of income, jobs and, above all, with the generation of a stronger, more reliable electrical sector, with a more robust transmission system that will provide development to our country”, he emphasized.

Investment in nine states

The lots comprise investments in nine states: Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. Construction completion times vary from 42 to 60 months.

Two lots present facilities revitalization projects. The object of lot 5 is Substation 230/13,8 kV Porto Alegre 4, currently managed by CEEE-GT (State Electricity Generation and Transmission Company).

The projects that make up Lot 11, currently under the responsibility of Amazonas-GT, will be auctioned, considering that the concessionaire chose not to renew the concession contract. The winner of lot 11, in addition to the new facilities, will receive the administration, operation and maintenance of the existing facilities, in addition to the task of revitalizing these facilities.

During the vote on the topic, the Board of Directors of ANEEL included in the text of the vote the impediment that the concessions to be auctioned undergo a transfer of control before entering into commercial operation.

The notice is sent for review by the TCU (Federal Court of Auditors). If there are any changes, it will be reviewed again by the Board of Directors of the ANEEL in November. The approved text considered 500 suggestions from society, obtained through Public Consultation No. 46/2019, carried out in two phases – from December 20, 2019 to February 3, 2020, with 18 participants, and from May 14 to July 29, 2020, with 29 participants.
