Brazil and Colombia are beginning to consolidate a joint innovation agenda by launching a partnership focused on energy transition and the development of smart cities.
The initiative connects research centers, universities, and a Colombian public transportation operator, focusing on applied solutions for the electricity sector and sustainable urban mobility.
The central focus of the cooperation is the Future Grid, a Center of Competence accredited by Embrapii (Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company) and led by Lactact, which acts as the technical and institutional coordinator of the binational consortium.
The goal is to integrate scientific capacity, operational experience, and real-world data to accelerate the development of technologies in Smart Grids, electromobility, and advanced energy systems.
The project has already resulted in the signing of agreements between Lactec and two Colombian universities: University Francisco Jose de Calda and EAFIT University.
The institutions will work together in an integrated manner on research, researcher exchange, academic guidance, and shared use of laboratories.
With a focus on open innovation, technology transfer, and team capacity building, the partnership positions Brazil and Colombia as key players in building a regional agenda for clean energy, smart cities, and sustainable mobility.
For the B2B sector, the initiative creates concrete opportunities for technological development, new business models, and integration between science, the market, and the public sector.
