The board of directors of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) the notice for Transmission Auction No. 4/2026, scheduled for October 30, at the B3 headquarters in São Paulo.
The auction will have eight lots distributed across seven states and foresees R$ 8,8 billion in investments, consolidating a new round of expansion of the country's transmission infrastructure.
The projects include 1.866 kilometers of new transmission lines and substations, in addition to the continuation of 483 kilometers of existing lines.
Also planned are 12.694 MVA of transformation capacity, 600 MVA of continuity, and four synchronous compensations. The agency estimates the creation of 20.312 direct jobs.
The projects will be implemented in Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Paraná, Rondônia, and São Paulo. The largest investment is concentrated in Lot 4, estimated at R$ 4,1 billion, with works in Goiás, Paraná, and Mato Grosso do Sul. The lot will be divided into two sub-lots, which will be offered separately and later combined.
Connection in doubt.
The approval comes as an issue looms on the horizon that could affect the next transmission expansion cycle: the inclusion of an electrical interconnection between Brazil and Bolivia The auction scheduled for April 2027 is pending.
The implementation of this project was contingent upon the approval of an international treaty by the Brazilian National Congress and the Bolivian legislature.
The bilateral agreement needs to be ratified by both countries, preferably by November 2026, to ensure legal certainty for the project.
If the process in the Brazilian Congress faces significant delays, there is a possibility that the interconnection lot will be removed from the bidding rules of the first transmission auction scheduled for 2027.
The project envisions a large-scale international connection, with a direct current line crossing Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Goiás, in addition to a 500 kV line between the border and the Corumbá 2 Substation.
