The Government of Ceará inaugurated this week the Lagoinha Solar Complex, a project that promises not only to strengthen the state's clean energy matrix, but also to generate socioeconomic development for the region. Located in Russas (CE), the project occupies an area of 304 hectares and houses more than 337 thousand solar panels, enough capacity to supply more than 200 thousand homes with clean energy.

With 165 MW of installed capacity, Lagoinha is the first greenfield solar project developed in the country by CGN Brasil, a branch of the Chinese state-owned company China General Nuclear Power Group. During the inauguration ceremony, solar panels were delivered to public schools in the region, in an initiative that combines environmental education, energy efficiency and social inclusion.

“Investing in clean energy is about the future, but also about the present of our communities. We are combining sustainability and social inclusion in an action that transcends technique and promotes transformation,” said Roseane Medeiros, Secretary of International Relations of the Ceará.

Self-production agreement will serve 70 hospitals in Brazil

One of the main contracts signed before the inauguration of the project involves a contract for self-production of solar energy signed between CGN Brasil, Grupo Bolt and Rede D'Or. Under the contract, an average of 57 MW of solar energy will be supplied over the next 17 years to 70 hospital units in the D'Or Network, distributed in 13 states and in the Federal District.

“Self-production guarantees predictability and security of supply, in addition to allowing cost reduction through reduction of sectoral charges, reducing exposure to water crises, encouraging the use of renewable sources and strengthening environmental, social and governance practices”, he highlighted. Gustavo Ayala, CEO of the Bolt Group.
