The Colombian government has regulated the "Colombia Solar" program, aimed at generating renewable energy for low-income families. The initiative was formalized through... 40.159 Resolution from 2026, published by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia.
The program focuses on families classified in socioeconomic brackets 1, 2, and 3, considered the lowest income brackets in the country. The proposal allows these consumers to install solar energy systems for self-generation, reducing their dependence on government subsidies.
Self-generation and subsidy reduction
The initiative envisions the installation of individual and collective solar systems, allowing users to cover their basic energy consumption from renewable sources. The model seeks to gradually replace the current electricity subsidy system with distributed generation solutions.
Criteria and implementation
Prioritization of beneficiaries will take into account factors such as poverty level, cost of energy service, territorial conditions, and solar radiation potential of the regions. The measure was also classified as being of national strategic interest, according to the Colombian government.
In addition to the installation of the systems, the program includes operation and maintenance plans lasting up to 25 years, ensuring the sustainability of the projects over time. Another focus of the program is the adoption of advanced metering systems, which will aim to monitor both the consumption and the energy generated by the installed units.
