The Brazilian Energy Transition Atlas 2026 – State-by-State Breakdown is now available in a new edition with an updated overview of ongoing energy transition initiatives in Brazil, using 2025 as the base year.

The version was presented on Tuesday (18), during the first day of the Brazilian Congress of Mines and Energy 2026, in Brasília (DF). The consolidated figures in the balance of initiatives show the scope of the survey.

There are 27 participating states, considering the 26 federative units and the Federal District, with 425 mapped initiatives. The Atlas also brings together nine macro-themes, 21 technologies and 168 products, in records covering the period from 1992 to 2051.

This edition updates information on public policies under development, projects, new energy sources, and the progress of actions recorded in previous cycles.

Among the energy sources that appear most prominently in state policies, programs, and plans is solar power, followed by initiatives related to hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane.

joint work

The Atlas is the result of work carried out by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) in partnership with EPE (Energy Research Company). The project also has technical cooperation from the IEA (International Energy Agency).

The initiative began structuring, in July 2023, a national repository organized into two axes. The Regulatory Axis brings together policies, plans, programs, legal frameworks, and regulatory instruments.

The Executive Axis, on the other hand, records projects, actions, and initiatives under implementation, allowing for monitoring of the materialization of public policy guidelines. In the 2026 version, the work was carried out based on structured contributions from the states, subsequently registered with EPE.

The methodology follows parameters of standardization, comparability, and traceability of data, in line with IEA recommendations. The records are classified by policy instruments—policies, plans, programs, projects, and actions—and by themes associated with the energy transition.

how to consult

The Atlas functions as an interactive platform, meaning the tool allows users to search for and track information on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, electrification of end uses, greenhouse gas emissions, energy security, and sustainable development.

The consultation is conducted through dynamic visualizations and search tools, which allow for the exploration of different dimensions of the data. In addition to serving public managers, researchers, and investors, the platform aims to increase transparency and support sectoral planning and decision-making.
