Forty state schools on the coast of São Paulo will produce clean energy from solar power plants, with an estimated investment of R$ 6 million from Neoenergia Elektro. The initiative is the result of an agreement with the State Government, which was signed in February of this year.
The agreement foresees the generation of 1,7 GWh per year and is now starting to take shape, with the work plan beginning this Monday (17). The action is part of the PEE (Energy Efficiency Program) of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and foresees complete diagnoses in the units, modernization of lighting systems and reduction of operational costs.
Among the main expected results is the installation of solar power plants totaling 1,3 MW of installed capacity. The system's annual generation is estimated to meet the consumption of 770 homes and should supply approximately 75% of the electricity demand of the schools included in the project, benefiting around 29 students, teachers, and staff.
The work plan began this Monday (17) and foresees carrying out complete diagnoses of the facilities of each school unit located in 12 municipalities on the coast of the State, in the concession area of Neoenergia Elektro.
The analyses aim to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, including modernizing lighting systems to ensure greater efficiency and comfort in educational environments.
“By reducing electricity costs, the state can direct resources to other areas. At the same time, these units begin to act as large laboratories, sparking the interest of new generations in learning about energy transition,” said Natália Resende, Secretary of Semil (Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics).
Municipalities covered
The schools benefiting from the initiative are located in municipalities on the southern and northern coast of the state. These are: Bertioga, Cananéia, Guarujá, Ilhabela, Ilha Comprida, Iguape, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, Peruíbe, Praia Grande, Registro, and Ubatuba.
For Solange Ribeiro, vice president of Neoenergia, the installation of solar power plants in 40 public schools transforms the energy transition into a concrete benefit for the population.
"In addition to promoting efficiency and reducing costs, the initiative brings students, educators, and communities closer to the benefits of renewable energy generation and the importance of conscious energy consumption," she emphasizes.
