Pernambuco bets on solar to reduce the population’s water bill

O government of Pernambuco e a compensates (Pernambuco Sanitation Company) signed, this Monday (18), a PPP (Public-private partnership) for the implementation of two photovoltaic plants in the municipalities of Flores and São Caetano.

Furthermore, in the long term, Benefits from the source will be passed on to the population. This is because, according to the company, by reducing its operating costs, it will be possible to make more investments in services and also decrease transfer in a possible increase in consumers' water bill.

Currently, energy expenditure represents the company's biggest cost of sanitation and the new plants will allow these values ​​to be reduced by 30%.

According to the Government of Pernambuco, with the partnership, the private businesses those responsible for construction are committed to deliver the plants within four years. Os investments for the construction of projects, which count with a capacity of 135 MW, will be R$ 453 million. 

The agreement also provides for a concession period of 29 years and a generation of 320 GWh/year, equivalent to the consumption of 175 thousand medium-sized homes. As plants will also generate 700 jobs direct and indirect and a savings of R$1,1 billion during the term of the contract.
