With an investment of R$ 115,6, Itaipu Binacional installed a 46,36 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof of the Cristo Rei Hospital in Mandaguari (PR). The result was immediate: the electricity bill dropped from around R$ 20 to R$ 1 per month.
The initiative is part of a program developed in partnership with the Federation of Holy Houses of Mercy and Charitable Hospitals of the State of Paraná, which foresees the adoption of solar power generation in Holy Houses and philanthropic hospitals in Paraná.
According to Carlos Carboni, Director of Coordination at Itaipu, the initiative has a direct impact on the quality of service. The expectation is annual savings of R$ 11,7 million.
“When we reduce the cost of the electricity bill, we have resources available at the point of care, within the hospital, to buy medicines, hire professionals, and improve the quality of care. Taking care of health is, above all, taking care of people,” he stated.
This action is part of the Itaipu Mais que Energia program, aimed at financing social, environmental, and infrastructure projects in the area of influence of the power plant.
According to Femipa's administrative and financial director, Paulo Henrique Becker, this is an unprecedented initiative in the country.
“We have never had an initiative of this magnitude in Brazil, which combines clean energy, financial savings, and a direct improvement in service. The savings on the electricity bill automatically benefit the population,” he emphasized.
