A ANEEL announced on Friday, July 26th, that the month of August will be charged under the red flag level 07. The increase in the consumer's bill will be R$1 for every 4,00 kWh of energy consumed. In July, the tariff flag in effect was the yellow one with an extra charge of R$100 for every 1,50 kWh.
The agency explains that the month of August is typically a month of drought in river basins where there are hydroelectric plants connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN). The weather forecast for the month indicates rainfall below the historical average for the period.
To compensate for the decrease in reservoir levels, thermoelectric plants had their generation increased, resulting in higher energy prices for consumers.
