Almost two years later, the board of directors of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) denied, by majority, a request from Marlim Azul Energia for exclusion of liability and change of schedule regarding the implementation of the Thermoelectric Plant (OUTDOORS) in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro. This is the first thermoelectric plant to use natural gas extracted from the Pre-Salt layer, which was inaugurated in November 2023.
The process in which the company requested the exclusion of liability returned to the agenda after two years, as it had been initiated in October 2023. General Director Sandoval Feitosa presented a dissenting vote, in which the company's request was denied. He was followed by Agnes Aragão and Ricardo Tili. Director Ludimila Silva did not participate in the vote as the vote of former board member Hélvio Guerra, who left the Agency in May 2024, had already been cast the previous year.
Director Fernando Mosna, the rapporteur for the case, had also voted on that occasion to partially grant the administrative request from Marlim Azul Energia. He acknowledged the change in the work schedule, but the prevailing understanding was to reject the request.
Located in Macaé, UTE Marlin Azul has the capacity to supply electricity to more than two million homes. The project was contracted in the New Energy Auction A-6, held in 2017. The construction was financed with resources from BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) in the order of R$2 billion. The work generated around seven thousand direct and indirect jobs.
