After being removed from the agenda, Transmission Auction No. 2/2024, for the contracting of a public electricity transmission service, was unanimously approved by the board of directors of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
The process will follow the established schedule, ensuring the auction for September 27, at the B3 headquarters in São Paulo. The expectation is that R$3,35 billion will be invested, generating 7.060 direct jobs.
The rapporteur of the process, director Fernando Monsa, was accompanied by the votes of the other three members of the regulatory agency, during the 31st ordinary meeting, on the morning of this Tuesday (27). In the previous meeting, there was no time to prepare a technical note that would support the board, so the matter was removed from the agenda.
Divided into three lots, the electricity transmission auction foresees the construction and maintenance of 784 kilometers and 1.000 megavolt-amps (MVA) in transformation capacity.
Most of these interventions will be concentrated in the first lot, which covers the states of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná and Santa Catarina. In addition to these, the remaining lots will include Bahia and São Paulo.
Lot 2, which includes projects in Rio Grande do Sul, was withdrawn from the competition at the request of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, due to the need to mitigate risks related to extreme weather events.
EPE (Energy Research Company) will study a new route for transmission lines and the location of substations. According to the ANEEL, the areas where the projects would be installed were seriously affected by the floods that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul in April.
Furthermore, Lot 1, which represents approximately 87% of the investments planned for the auction, may be auctioned in two sub-lots. In this way, it will be possible to contract Lot 1 in its entirety (sub-lots 1A and 1B together) or each sub-lot. ANEEL will decide on the possibility with the lowest RAP (Permitted Annual Revenue).
*The numbers in the version published yesterday considered the bidding of four lots. However, Lot 2 was withdrawn from the bidding process due to the need to mitigate risks related to climate events.
