The MRV Arena, in Belo Horizonte (MG), received this Sunday (17) the Procel Building Construction Seal, becoming the first Brazilian stadium to achieve this certification of excellence in energy efficiency. The plaque was presented by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.

Procel (National Electric Energy Conservation Program) is coordinated by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and managed by ENBPar (Brazilian Nuclear and Binational Energy Holding Company), linked to the Ministry.

The Procel Edificações Seal is awarded both at the design stage, valid until completion, and at the completed building stage. Opened in April 2023, the Clube Atlético Mineiro stadium received the highest score on the PBE Edifica Label (Brazilian Energy Efficiency Labeling Program).

"This achievement shows that energy efficiency is not just a goal for commercial and residential buildings, but also for large sports facilities, which can lead by example and inspire change across the country," added Miguel Marques, Director of Government Program Management at ENBPar.

Procel Seal

Created in 2014, the Procel Building Seal identifies projects with better energy performance, encouraging the market to adopt more efficient construction and technological solutions. Since then, 302 Procel Seals have been awarded.

Besides have a contract to supply clean and renewable energy through the Free Energy Market, other initiatives that guaranteed the certification of Arena MRV were:

  • 100% LED lighting, reducing electricity consumption;
  • Thermal insulation on the roof of TV booths, cabins, infirmaries and other service spaces, reducing heat absorption and the use of air conditioning;
  • High-efficiency air conditioning equipment with duct and pipe insulation;
  • Efficient hydraulic devices and rainwater harvesting, with reuse for toilets and field irrigation, saving more than 50% in annual water consumption.
