In the solar sector, the search for greater competitiveness in projects goes beyond reducing initial costs (CAPEX). Considering the longevity and efficiency of plants, which need to operate for an average of 25 years with minimal loss of generation, the role of the inverter becomes crucial to ensure robust and intelligent operation.
during the panel “Centralized generation: PLD on the rise and Capex on the decline, what are the prospects for the projects?”, Henry Vieira, Sales Manager at Solis, discussed how the choice and use of inverters directly impact competitiveness and operating expenses (OPEX) over the years.
For him, the choice between string inverters and central inverters depends on the topography and the specifics of the project. “Theoretically, I would advocate the string inverter, which, in some cases, can be cheaper, although it costs more on cables. But this is only valid if it is truly suited to the topography and needs of the plant. Otherwise, central inverters may be more advantageous.”
The executive highlighted that inappropriate choices, even if cheaper in the short term, can result in performance problems over time, not due to product failure, but due to a lack of alignment between the equipment and the terrain.
