Seven renewable projects from Atiaia Renováveis, an energy generation and marketing company of the Cornélio Brennand Group, now have the international renewable energy certification I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate), combined with the REC Brazil seal.

The announcement, made by the company, occurred shortly after the Areado PCH and the UFVs Maravilhas I and II photovoltaic plants received certifications. The projects are located in Mato Grosso do Sul and Pernambuco.

These plants join the Porto das Pedras and Bandeirante PCHs, in Mato Grosso do Sul, which had their certification renewed, and the Garganta da Jararaca and Paranatinga II PCHs, in the State of Mato Grosso, which already met the 17 UN SDGs.

According to Atiaia, the certifications are the result of the company's commitment to adopting best sustainable development practices in its operations.

“We are very proud to have expanded our certification to seven plants. This important step forward reflects our commitment to a sustainable operating model and a cleaner future that goes beyond the generation of renewable energy, encompassing actions in favor of socio-environmental development,” emphasizes Lígia Guedes, Environment, Health and Safety Manager at Atiaia Renováveis.

“Atiaia Renováveis continues its growth trajectory with a focus on preserving natural resources, improving the quality of life of communities and strengthening the local economy, effectively contributing to achieving the 17 UN SDGs globally,” adds Lígia.

With the addition of the three projects, the company extended I-REC to 54% of its operating park in the states of Pernambuco, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, totaling 187,33 MW of installed capacity and 899.000 MWh/year of annual generation.

What is I-REC?

I-REC certifies the sustainable origin of the energy consumed in accordance with international environmental protocol standards.

Furthermore, the REC Brazil seal offers customers the guarantee that the plants meet criteria of additionality, sustainability in social and environmental aspects and relations with the community.

The REC Brazil seal is a joint initiative of the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica) and the Brazilian Clean Energy Association (Abragel), with support from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), the Brazilian Association of Energy Traders (Abraceel) and the Brazilian Biogas and Biomethane Association (ABiogás).
